Paul King, founder. Paul is a Manhattan-based academic coach and tutor specializing in SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, SHSAT, and ISEE exam preparation. In addition to standardized tests, he also tutors Chemistry (Regents/AP/university level/organic), Math (Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, AP and college Calculus), and English. Paul has worked with students from many of New York City’s most competitive high schools, including Bronx Science, Stuyvesant, LaGuardia, Brooklyn Tech, Dalton, Trinity, and Friends Seminary, among others. In his 5+ years tutoring, Paul has helped over one hundred students achieve academic success, build intellectual and personal confidence, and gain acceptance into top-tier high schools and universities. He founded Paul King Prep in 2015.
Academic background: Paul received his B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Delaware in 2009, graduating Magna Cum Laude with Honors, and earning induction into Phi Beta Kappa. Upon graduating, Paul moved abroad in Thailand, where he had worked as a volunteer English instructor between semesters in college. After completing a year of coursework in written and spoken Thai language at Thammasat University in Bangkok, Paul taught English as a Second Language for two years in a high school on the southern Thai isthmus. Upon returning to the US in 2012, Paul rediscovered a passion for his old subjects of Chemistry and Math, and began tutoring full-time. In addition to his work as a tutor, Paul has written for Khan Academy in California, creating articles and content for topics in AP Chemistry.
When he’s not tutoring, Paul enjoys running, reading, trading stocks and options, and seeing live music. An avid musician in his earlier years, Paul grew up playing the piano and drums, and played in bands all through high school and college. While his current Manhattan apartment cannot accommodate the Pearl drum set (neither, for that matter, can the neighbors), he keeps up with playing acoustic guitar. Much to the appreciation of his students, Paul brings his brand of fun, humor, worldliness, and rigor to each and every tutoring session.
